Hugo Grykar is also the designers of the coveted Brides de Gala. In 1946 he created the ex-libris which became the emblem of the House of Hermes.
“An ex-libris is a distinctive marking chosen by a booklover to personalise the works in his library. In 1923, Émile‑Maurice Hermès, the grandson of the founder of the house, chose to this effect a design by Alfred de Dreux (1810-1860) preserved in his collection: Duc attelé, groom à l’attente, which he placed above his initials EMH. From one side to the other, a caducée, attribute of the Greek god Hermès, symbolises peace and commercial transactions. This design became the emblem of the house. Around this medallion four elegant horse-drawn carriages are inspired by the original designs of carriage-makers conserved in the Émile Hermès collection.” Hermes
ABOUT THE TWILLY
While the traditional Hermès scarf is a perfect square shape, the Hermès Twilly scarf is a long, narrow, ribbon-like piece of silk that comes in a stunning array of colors and patterns. The name ‘twill’ comes from the weaving technique used to create the strong, fantastic drape the modern accessory is known for.
Stylish and chic, it’s a versatile accessory that can be incorporated into your wardrobe in numerous ways. In addition to tying it around your neck like a scarf, it can be wrapped around a hat or the handles of your Hermès handbag, and used as bracelet, belt, headband or hair tie.
In keeping with their tradition of impeccable craftsmanship, Hermès hires artists to individually hand-design every Twilly and each season the fashion house introduces a variety of new designs in a wide range of colors and prints.
With the creation of the Twilly, Hermès has fashioned a truly modern update to their traditional silk scarf.
