“Based on the design of the Bingata scarf.
Developed in the 14th century, Bingata is a dyeing process originating from the Okinawa archipelago, when it was the Ryukyu Kingdom, at the crossroads of trade routes between Southeast Asia, China and the Japanese Empire. Different techniques are combined to create the Bingata. First, a stencil is applied to the fabric, then this is coated with a rice paste in order to reproduce the patterns on the material. The areas to be painted are soaked in a soy-based mix to help fix the color pigments. The result is incredibly delicate, as this scarf designed by Natsuno Hidaka exemplifies, taking inspiration from this expertise.” Hermes

ABOUT THE TWILLY
While the traditional Hermès scarf is a perfect square shape, the Hermès Twilly scarf is a long, narrow, ribbon-like piece of silk that comes in a stunning array of colors and patterns. The name ‘twill’ comes from the weaving technique used to create the strong, fantastic drape the modern accessory is known for.
Stylish and chic, it’s a versatile accessory that can be incorporated into your wardrobe in numerous ways. In addition to tying it around your neck like a scarf, it can be wrapped around a hat or the handles of your Hermès handbag, and used as bracelet, belt, headband or hair tie.
In keeping with their tradition of impeccable craftsmanship, Hermès hires artists to individually hand-design every Twilly and each season the fashion house introduces a variety of new designs in a wide range of colors and prints.
With the creation of the Twilly, Hermès has fashioned a truly modern update to their traditional silk scarf.
